SSL Certificates

Recent Changes to Internet Browsing

Browsers such as Google Chrome have recently made changes to identify websites that do not use SSL certificates, and display a warning to visitors to the site. These browsers identify the website as “Not Secure” as they do not use an encryption process that is provided by installing an SSL certificate.

What is an SSL Certificate?

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates the identity of a website and encrypts information sent from the browser to the server using SSL technology.

The certificate encrypts data using the process of scrambling data into an undecipherable format that can only be returned to a readable format with the correct decryption key.

What can be done?

IRM can install an SSL certificate on your website to ensure that data sent between your website and the server is encrypted. We are happy to purchase a certificate on your behalf but we may need additional details from you.

Alternatively, if you have an IT team that will purchase the certificate, we can install the certificate on the server where your website is hosted.

Please note: If your IT department is purchasing the certificate, please reach out to us beforehand to ensure the correct certificate for your website and servers is obtained. There are various types of SSL certificates that verify the website or organisation in different ways and at numerous levels. Email us at support@irmau.com today to speak to us about the security of your website.

HQi Access

If you would like to add an SSL certificate to your HQi login page, we can provide an IRM security certificate for that purpose only.

Please note: This may mean that you have to login to your website at a slightly different URL that was previously provided.
